Physical Description Haruhi has an actively fit figure. This is thanks to her rigorous daily workout regimen, which she actively works to fulfill even with the limited resources aboard a starship. Because she keeps in shape during her waking hours, she is capable of taking down opponents larger than her. Haruhi wears her hair in a different style every day, but keeps it tied up with a department color matching Rhydonian ceremonial hair tie, which she has gotten authorized to wear with her Starfleet uniform.

Personal History Haruhi's Personal History

Haruhi was born on Rhydonia Prime, the home world of the Rhydonian people located within the Rhydonian Nebula. (See Rhydonian history below.) She was born to a highly spiritual people deeply in tune with their planet and the nebula that surrounded it. From a young age, Haruhi developed a knack for tinkering, particularly when she grew bored during important Rhydonian rituals. Haruhi's parents hoped that she would grow out of it and inherit her family's shrine. A concept that even from a young age, Haruhi found ridiculous, as she felt that shrines were "a dime a dozen" on Rhydonia, and who cared if one of them folded?

Safe to say, Haruhi never grew out of tinkering, and her relationship with her parents became strained because of it. During the 18th Celestial Festival that Haruhi was alive to experience (see Rhydonian Culture below), she ran away from home and stowed away on a freighter departing the planet. She didn't care where it was going- she just knew she needed to get off Rhydonia.

Fortunately, the freighter that Haruhi stowed away on was bound for Earth, with the cargo's final destination being Los Angeles. Experiencing the City of Angels for the first time was a different world for Haruhi, because it literally was. It was here that Haruhi was made aware of just how special nebula dwelling was. Not only did she receive comments on how incredible it was to meet a Rhydonian, once she got used to seeing a regular night sky, Haruhi found it quite boring compared to the brilliant night skies of Rhydonia.

Haruhi isn't sure what compelled her into that Starfleet recruiting office... Maybe it was that shiny delta, maybe it was her final subconscious admission that she had grown bored of Earth already. Whatever the case was, Haruhi soon found herself being whisked off to Starfleet Academy. At first, San Francisco was new and exciting... Until Haruhi found out that it wasn't located very far from Los Angeles. At which point the new wore off rather quickly. While other cadets marveled that visiting Hollywood Boulevard was a quick day trip, Haruhi didn't understand the big deal about it, given the close geographical proximity of the two cities.

Rhydonian History

Long ago, Rhydonia Prime belonged to a normal star system. Early Rhydonian history was largely reflective of other humanoid species in the Milky Way galaxy. However, that all changed in the 16th century during the Rhydonian Medieval period when a massive celestial battle erupted in the heavens above. Curious pre-warp Rhydonians watched through their telescopes as spaceships exchanged fire and exploded.

[Classified Starfleet files suggest that the Rhydonia system was likely the site of a major battle during the Temporal War, culminating in the launch of a warhead at the Rhydonian Star. Who fired it remains unclear, as all combatant vessels were destroyed in the explosion that followed, but the warhead exploded the star's gravity well, causing the Rhydonian Star to unravel. While the combatant ships were no match for the released molecular clouds, the Rhydonian Star collapsed slowly enough to spare Rhydonia itself. The resulting cataclysm from the destruction of the Rhydonian Star led to the formation of what is now known as the Rhydonian Nebula.]

Following the cataclysmic destruction of their star, and their planet's miraculous sparing from destruction, the Rhydonians reevaluated the violent ways that had defined much of their early history, and believed that the aliens that died as the skies changed colors had given their lives to protect Rhydonia. Thus, the entire Rhydonian mythos shifted as the Rhydonians adopted the casualties of a battle they couldn't comprehend as their new gods.

Following "the night the sky changed colors," Rhydonian civilization entered a renaissance, followed immediately by an industrial revolution during the next two centuries. Rhydonian technology advanced rapidly, and by the 18th century, Rhydonians made their earliest spaceflights. Much of Rhydonia's time leading up to their discovery of warp travel involved charting and mapping safe routes through the nebula which surrounded their world. Many probes and brave Rhydonian Nebunauts were lost in pursuit of this knowledge, but it would prove key to making the first Rhydonian warp flight possible.

On the year of the 297th Celestial Festival (the Earth year 1818), Rhydonians made their first warp flight. A Vulcan survey ship had been observing the Nebula, and they were about to mark the nebula which had claimed the lives of at least three prior survey crews as a navigational hazard when they detected (at the time) an unknown ship emerge from the Nebula and jump to warp like nobody's business. Following their successful warp flight, the Nebunauts returned to Rhydonia to find that the Vulcan ship had followed them back, and first contact with the Vulcans was subsequently made.

As the Rhydonians set out across the stars, they encountered other space-faring civilizations who were more than happy to trade. With the notable exception of the Klingons, whom the Rhydonians adopted a policy of shooting on sight following their second fatal clash on the year of the 489th Celestial Festival (the Earth year 2010)

On the year of the 632nd Celestial Festival (the Earth year 2153), Rhydonians met Humans for the first time. The curious Starfleet crew wished to see the Rhydonian homeworld once pleasantries were exchanged. The crew of the Rhydonian freighter that had been hailed by the Humans advised them to stay close, as the way was treacherous.

The years between the 635th and 639th Celestial Festivals (between the Earth years 2156 and 2160) marked the Earth-Romulan War. While the Rhydonians remained officially neutral in that conflict, they were known to provide safe harbor to Coalition of Planets forces passing through the Nebula, and even taught some riskier routes through the Nebula to throw off any unsuspecting Romulans.

The year of the 650th Celestial Festival (the Earth year 2171) saw the Rhydonians officially join the United Federation of Planets. With their ascension to the Federation, the Rhydonians share detailed maps of their Nebula, containing all charted navigable passages up to that point, including the major thoroughfare through the Nebula, known as the Rhydonian Corridor.

The earth year 2265 on the Rhydonian Calendar is the year of the 744th Celestial Festival. At this point, Rhydonia has been a member of the United Federation of Planets for 94 Celestial Festivals.

Rhydonian Culture

The Rhydonians are a deeply spiritual people. They firmly believe that what their forefathers witnessed in the Earth year 1520 was a miracle, and starting in the Earth year 1521, they began to hold a Celestial Festival annually to celebrate the miracle on the anniversary that it happened. The Rhydonian Calendar was reworked that year to record how many Celestial Festivals had taken place since the miracle. 1521 was the year of the First Celestial Festival, and so forth.

Rhydonians do not celebrate birthdays like other Humanoid species. Because of this, Rhydonians record their age by how many Celestial Festivals they have lived through. When a Rhydonian has lived through 18 Celestial Festivals, Rhydonian law considers them to be an adult, though Rhydonians don't reach full biological maturity until they live through 25 Celestial Festivals. One day of the Rhydonian Celestial Festival is dedicated to the Rhydonians who have lived to their 18th Celestial Festival.

Because the Rhydonians worship the aliens who died as the sky changed color as their gods, beginning with the Vulcans on the year of the 297th Celestial Festival, the Rhydonians view species they make first contact with as reconnecting with one of their gods.

The major Rhydonian holiday is the Celestial Festival itself. A two week period that effectively serves as the Rhydonian New Year, as well as when Rhydonians consider themselves to have aged. Minor Rhydonian holidays, as well as Federation holidays that don't come into conflict with the Celestial Festival are also celebrated throughout the year.
